Why Did Peter Navarro Go To Jail

Why Did Peter Navarro Go To Jail? What we Know

In the first quarter of 2024, Peter Navarro, the aide to former US president, Donald Trump was sentenced to a four-month jail term for ignoring a subpoena ( written court order) connected to the Jan 6, 2021, investigations of the US capitol attack. Apparently, he had information that would aid the investigations and probe his conduct during the 2020 elections.

The 75-year-old ex-adviser was sentenced in January and given a fine of $9,500. However, Navarro tried to excuse his behavior by saying he was protected by executive privilege. Unfortunately, he couldn’t provide evidence for his claims so the federal Judge in Washington rejected his argument.

This led him to a three-court appeal panel in Washington and the Supreme Court which rejected his appeal to delay the sentence. During his appeal, his lawyers cited Anne Gorsuch who also failed to obey the US House, but was never prosecuted. Yet, their arguments didn’t hold water.

Finally, Peter Navarro conceded in March and started his sentence at the Federal Correctional Institute, Miami. A short press conference was held opposite the Miami facility where Navarro described the allegations against him as an ‘unprecedented assault on the constitutional separation of powers.’

Navarro has been released from the Miami Facility but is still in the public eye. He was a speaker at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
