Riot In Rochdale: Event and Cause. What We Know

A viral video that has sparked the attention of netizens on Twitter shows a man being killed and matched by a police officer in the process of an arrest. This incident took place on Tuesday night at Manchester Airport. 

The incident has caused a mixed reaction amongst netizens which has raised an alarm on the brutality of some police officers which led to a protest by an angry mob.

WHAT CAUSED THE RIOT IN ROCHDALE?

The viral video shows a man identified to be a Rochdale resident being kicked on the head and stamped upon by a police officer, while other officers tried to scare away the crowd by releasing Teasers and incapacitant spray.

Reports show that the men were arrested due to a case of assault. They assaulted a group of officers and one of the female officers sustained an injury on her nose during the process.

The video triggered the anger of the audience and by Wednesday night they assembled at the police station shouting and disrupting the peace of the environment. The video showed them raising placards and shouting; “GMP, Shame on you” and other aggressive statements.

The report shows that a man tried to put the situation under control as he advised the angry mob to stay calm and not put laws into their hands. He urged them not to be violent in the protest as peace is the ultimate.

A CT scan that was conducted yesterday shows that the victim; the man who was kicked in the head, had developed a cyst in his brain after the condition worsened on Wednesday night.

Although the family of the victim pleaded with the crowd to let peace reign and stop the violence, the angry mob insisted on carrying on with the protest. In their words; “we have every right to protest.”
