Born John Michael Gaudreau on August 13, 1993, is an American professional ice hockey player. During Johnny’s early days, he had played for the Penns Grove Little League Base. Popularly nicknamed Johnny Hockey, he had played about 11 professional seasons and was set to enter his third season with the Columbus Blue Jacket. 

On the other hand, Sean Monahan born on October 12, 1994, is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre for the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League. Sean and Johnny were best friends. Their friendship took them to the field. After playing Junior Ice Hockey with the Ottawa of the Ontario Hockey League while serving as a captain, he was selected as the overall sixth by the Calgary Flames in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. 

The History: A Look Back at the Friendship Between Gaudreau and Monahan

Shortly after Monahan got signed in Columbus, he shared how exciting it was to be able to reunite with his friends. Sean Monahan and Gaudreau were teammates for nine seasons with the Calgary Flames and were two of the best players on the roster each year. Monahan and Gaudreau grew to be close friends even after they both left the Flames in 2022.

During the interview on What Chaos! Podcast, Sean Monahan spoke highly of his friend but the tragic event more tougher to process 

“Johnny’s one of my best friends,”

 “To come back and be able to play with him again is pretty cool.” he further proclaimed how much fun a person Johnny Gaudreau was. He said “Just an awesome all-around guy,” Monahan said. “Great dad, great friend, and obviously, a special player.”

Sean Monahan spoke about how excited he was looking forward to playing next to his best friend before the tragic event. “I am really looking forward to being teammates with Johnny again, as Johnny is motivated to have a big season and be a huge part of the team and I’m excited to have the opportunity to reignite the chemistry we had for close to a decade.”
