In a sad piece of news, we report the tragic loss of three seniors at the WSSU, including beloved Kharis McGee.
Winston‑Salem State University (WSSU) in Winston‑Salem, North Carolina, has been thrown into mourning following the tragic loss of three seniors: Kharis McGee, Chaz Zoey Williams, and Quentin Glass.
School records indicate that they are all part of the class of 2026 and were very much active on campus.
Kharis McGee, one of the deceased, has been described as spirited, bright, and dedicated. She was a student worker at the O’Kelly Library. She sadly passed on Monday, the 25th of July, 2025, at the age of 22. She passed with the love and presence of family surrounding her at the Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital.
Kharis McGee was born on September 23, 2002 in in Monroe, Union County, North Carolina.
Per reports from the Blakelys Funeral & Cremation Service, there would be a Family Hour and Greeting on Saturday, August 2, 2025, 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the New Living Word Discipleship Worship Center, 7513 Broomes Old Mill Road, Waxhaw, NC 28173
Per the statement released by the University on all their social media platforms, including Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook explains that these students brought “students brought light, promise, and purpose to our campus.”

The C.G. O’Kelly Library has taken to social media to express their grief in a statement, it reads:
“On behalf of the #CGOKellyLibrary and #WSSU community, we extend our deepest condolences to Kharis’ family, friends, and loved ones. She was an amazing student, dedicated student worker, and asset to our campus community. Her spirit was infectious and was a blessing to all who knew her.”


Their sudden passing has left members of staff and students alike in shock and disbelief.
