Who Is Tim Walz? Meet Kamala Harris’ Running Mate
Kamala Harris has announced that Tim Walz is her current running mate on Tuesday. Tim Walz was selected to join the short list of contenders of the democratic party and help the party’s fight against Donald Trump. However, Tim Walz is the first Democratic Vice President picked since 1964 who did not go to Law School.
Here is what to know about Tim Walz – Kamala Harris Running Mate.
The 60-year-old Minnesota governor, Tim Walz was born in Nebraska, and spent his whole childhood days in Nebraska, graduating from high school in 1982. He enlisted in the Army National Guard. Tim had spent more than 12 months teaching abroad before he returned to the US to serve full-time in the Army National Guard. He also worked as a high school social studies teacher and as a football coach.
While teaching, Tin Walz met his wife Gwen where they both taught at the same school. Tim got married to Gwen and they had two adorable kids, Hope and Gus. He had begun his political career by volunteering for John Kerry’s Presidential campaign. Tim was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as a Democrat in 2007. Tim was re-elected in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016.
Tim was elected as Minnesota’s Governor in 2018 running after the previous governor – Governor Mark Dayton and also won reelection in 2022. He has made applaudable feats as a governor by providing students with free meals, and voting rights, reducing taxes for the middle class, and also increasing Minnesota workers’ paid leave.
Throughout his career as a governor, you can say he was raised to show generosity towards others while working for the common good ( Kamala Harris has said this quality of Tim Walz made her choose him as her running mate) and has prioritized making Minnesota the best place to raise a great family.
