Having played an important part over the years in the success of the organization, Air Canada’s pilots play an integral part in the airline’s domestic and international flights. 

However, the pilots have expressed their dissatisfaction stating that their compensation package and conditions of work have been rendered uncompetitive as compared to that of other pilots across the country. 

 The Contract That Sparked the Dispute 

 The brewing conflict is a result of an agreement that was effected when the organization was experiencing bankruptcy, though it seems invalid today. The airline has presented good signs of financial recovery in its recent financial year and indeed registered record profits in 2024. 

There have, however, been no commensurate improvements for the pilots, forcing them to demand change in wages, retirement benefits, and quality of life as they believe that their paycheck is not in any way a reflection of the input they put in daily. 

 As talks have been going on since June, the situation is quite tense and the pilots of the aircraft can only become more dissatisfied with the overall situation. 

This has resulted in The detoxification approval reaching a dazzling 98% of the pilot’s visibility, giving them the green light to strike as early as September 17, 2024.
