Liesl von Trapp Actress Charmian Carr Dies at 73

Charmian Carr whose real name is Charmian Anne Farnon, was born on December 28, 1942. She got her name because, her father supposedly, liked the name after reading a book by William Shakespeare “Antony and Cleopatra”.

Charmian Carr was the second of three daughters. Her mother, Rita Oehmen, had been a vaudeville actress with her brother Eddy, and her father, Brian Farnon, was a musician. Carr moved from Chicago to California when she was 13 and her father left her mother a few years after that. The girls hardly saw their father after that. 

Charmian Carr Transition Into Acting World 

Charmian Carr was a student of speech therapy and philosophy at the San Fernando Valley State College when her friends arranged an audition for her in the Sound Of Music. Charmian Carr was an American actress best known for her role as Liesl, the eldest of the seven von Trapp children in the 1965 five-Oscar-winning film, The Sound of Music;

Charmian Carr met with her husband, Jay Brent who was a dentist during a lullaby while touring around the world. They both got married and became parents to two beautiful girls. She stopped her acting career so she could put more focus on her kids.

As Charmian Carr’s children grew up, she decided to go into decorating full time where she met with Michael Jackson who was one of her biggest clients and also as a friend, she was the singer Michael Jackson’s interior designer for seven years.  Other of her clients are members of her Sound of Music family and her new husband, Robert Urich. 

During the late 90s, Carr co-wrote a book with Jean Strauss that talks about her whole life and experiences being Liesl which was titled “Forever Liesl” and “Letters to Liesl”. 

Charmian Carr got a divorce from Jay Brent In 1991. 

Charmian Carr Death

Charmian Carr died on 17 September 2016. She is said to have died from severe depression and insomnia at the age of 73. Charmian Carr is survived by her daughters, Jenifer and Emily.
