With the unexpected loss of Leon Jordan, a 55-year-old security aide and long-time youth mentor, the Chicago community has been devastated.
Leon Jordan died in a car crash on the 12th of September, 2025. Despite the arrival of medical treatment and being rushed to the hospital, he didn’t survive the crash.
He was known for always maintaining a calm demeanor, helping to lighten the moods of those around him.
He was a proud graduate of Lucy High School and Malcolm X College, after which he built a career in security and spent most of his time on weekends coaching youth basketball.
Former players recall how their coach always arrived early to take care of the court and still stayed late to give advice to those in need.
Colleagues at the EPS Security say he was a kind man who was very professional and a trustworthy person.
Online tributes are coming from his players, neighbours, and loved ones, all saying he was a person who gave without any expectation.
Funeral arrangements are ongoing as the community gathers to share his memories.
Flowers are being left near the west side court where Leon once coached his young players with his mantra, “play hard and stay humble.”
Leon’s memories of service and dedication will continue to direct those close to him in the right direction.
