Ironman Triathlon Distances A Fact Check Exposition

In all honesty, the Ironman triathlon distance races are rigorous and not for the faint-hearted.

If you can imagine racing for 24 hours, without halting, in one of the hardest competitions on the planet, then you might be able to participate in this competition and come out alive.

In simple form, The Ironman Triathlon tests athletes’ boundaries and capacities with these 3 tough, or you could say, high-pressure segments:

  1. The Swimming segment: All contenders dive into a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim.
  2. The Biking Segment: After the competitors swim, they mount their bikes for a strenuous 112-mile (180.25 km) ride.
  3. The Running segment: To round off, all contenders must as a matter of fact run a full endurance race of 26.2 miles (42.20 km).

Fun fact, the event usually starts in the morning. All competitors are given 17 hours about 1020 minutes to finish up all three parts. Deadly, yeah? Oftentimes, Elites finish these parts in 8-10 hours while others exhaust the full time.

Other Triathlon Distances

The Ironman is one of the most famous, if not the most famous triathlon competitions. Here are other triathlon distances:
