Iran Attack On Israel: What We Know So Far

In a sudden and unexpected turn of events, Iran launched a surprise attack on Israel. The strike, which caught many by surprise, has left the world wondering about the potential reactions and motive behind this attack. While the full intent of the attack is yet to be known, it is very clear what these two nations hold against each other which is raising more fears about further potential damages in the nations.

While the matter seems to be dying down, the international community struggles with this threatening situation and looks out for possible solutions before the regional fight escalates.

The Attack: A Detailed Breakdown of the Assault on Israel

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei mentioned during a rare speech on Friday that the missile release on Israel was the least punishment and would continue to attack Israel if necessary.

In another interview with Israel, former prime minister Ehud Barak says it’s too late to set back Tehran’s nuclear power and Iran is likely to also experience another attack on their oil facilities. During the interview, Barak said “Israel has a compelling need, even an imperative, to respond. I think that no sovereign nation on Earth could fail to respond,”

Barak said there was no doubt there would be an Israeli military response to Iran’s assault on Tuesday with over 180 ballistic missiles, most of which were intercepted, but some landed on and around densely populated areas and Israeli military bases. The only person who was reportedly killed was a Palestinian man in the West Bank. This is Iran’s second attack on Israel this year after firing 300 missiles and drones in April.

Motive: Examining the Possible Reasons Behind Iran’s Aggression

On Tuesday, the Iranian government launched about 180 missiles on Israel as social media videos verified showing missiles flying over the densely populated areas of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem in 15 minutes. The video footage also showed several missiles hitting areas like the Nevatim air base and the Mossad spy headquarters near Tel Aviv.

Israel defence force spokesman Rear Adm Daniel Hagari said “There were a small number of hits in the centre of Israel and other hits in southern Israel, the majority of the incoming missiles were intercepted by Israel and a defensive coalition led by the United States.”

The Israeli military confirmed on Wednesday some of its air bases had been hit during the attack, but said no weapons, aircraft, or critical infrastructure was damaged and the air force’s operational abilities were not affected.
