A 21-year-old Highland firefighter and EMT, Gavin Schlarmann, tragically passed in a motorcycle accident on Friday, 22nd of August, 2025.
His passing was announced on social media by the City of Highland Fire Department. The post detailed his hard work and commitment to the City of Highland Fire Department.

Gravin’s motorcycle reportedly left the road close to Illinois Route 160 in Grantfork. His motorcycle struck a tree. He was rushed to the hospital; however, he sadly passed. He was declared dead from blunt head trauma.
Gravin was notable for his compassion and, more importantly, his dedication to his work and saving the lives and properties of people. He was both a member of the Highland Fire Department and Highland EMS.
His sister, Lola Schlarmann, has organized a GoFundMe fundraiser to help out with medical and funeral expenses. She shared in the GoFundMe message, “Gavin always lived life fully, with passion and kindness.”

His family and the fire department remember his memory and ask the pubic to honour his memory by showing compassion, courage, and selfless love.
