American Ballerina Michaela DePrince Dies At 29

Born Mabinty Bangura on January 6, 1995, whose adopted name is Micheala Mabinty DePrince was a Sierra Leonean-American Ballerina who rose to fame in a documentary titled “First Position” in 2011. She was adopted at age 4 by Elaine and Charles DePrince who already had a large family of 11. Michaela got inspired by the image of a ballerina on a magazine cover which she found during her days at the orphanage home. She has since been a trained ballerina overcoming racism from all corners of life.

Michaela DePrince died on September 10, 2024, in New York at the young age of 29. Her death was announced on her Instagram account three days after her death. The cause of death is not made public. In an official statement, her family requested that people should make donations to War Child, an organisation supported by DePrince lieu of sending flowers. Elaine, who died of heart failure, passed away three days after her daughter’s death.
