Family, Community Mourns Jason Schmidt of Medina, ND

Medina, North Dakota, mourns and is deeply saddened by the loss of Jason Schmidt, a dedicated community pillar, father, and husband.

His passing has left an indelible mark on his family, those who knew him, and the community at large. He was a dedicated and known for his generosity, his unwavering work ethic, and, more importantly, a kind heart.

Jason was very respected in the community for his contributions to the community, like the North Dakota Beef Commission, as well as his vital role in the Kidder County School Board. The community saw him work tirelessly, striving to always strengthen his community, going above and beyond to lend a hand to those in dire need.

He was born August 4, 1971, to Ivan and Mary Schmidt in Jamestown, North Dakota. Jason was a lover of outdoor activities. Many will remember him for his positive spirit and positive influence.

At the time of writing this article, the cause of death is unclear; he passed on Friday, the 8th of August, 2025. His contributions and influence in Medina will not be forgotten in haste.

The Red River Farm Network, in their announcement post on social media, referred to him as an “industry leader in the North Dakota cattle industry”. In their words;

An industry leader in the North Dakota cattle industry has passed. Jason Schmidt, 54, ranched at Crystal Springs. Schmidt was a member of the Cattlemen’s Beef Board, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Region 7 past vice president, North Dakota Stockmen’s Association past president, North Dakota Beef Commission past chairman and newly elected to the North Dakota State Board of Agricultural Research and Education.

Per the funeral home the family used, The East Gate Funeral Home, a funeral mass will be held on Saturday, August 16th, at 11:00 AM, at the Kidder County High School Gymnasium.
