188-year-old Indian Man Found in a Cave: Fact or Fiction? 

Imagine finding a man in a cave, an old one who is said to be nearly two centuries old. That’s precisely what has caught the attention of the world, as the story of a 188-year-old man discovered in a cave in India has sent mixed reactions through the internet, sparking debate and fact-checking.  Some are claiming that the man’s age is a lie or a result of faulty record-keeping, while others are wondering if this could be the first verified case of extreme human longevity. 

The Discovery

A video has been circulating the internet, especially on X, showing a 188-year-old man being rescued from a cave near Bengaluru. The video currently has 34 million views on X which was shared by the handle ‘Concerned Citizen’. The post accompanying the video read: “This Indian man has just been found in a cave. It’s alleged he’s 188 years old. Insane.” has sparked a lot of comments and debates. 

The 24-second video showed two men supporting the elderly man who hunched over with his white beard and his walking stick as extra support. Despite the vitality of this video, the supposed age of the elderly man has quickly drawn the attention of fact-checkers. 

Fact Check 

The 188-year-old man identified as Siyaram Baba is a Hindu saint from Madhya Pradesh. Several reports claimed the elderly man was far from 188 but 110 years old. X itself issued a disclaimer below the original post, stating: “Misinformation! The elderly man is a Hindu Saint named ‘Siyaram Baba’ who lives in Madhya Pradesh, India. According to reports he is about 110 years old.” 

According to a recent article from Navbharat Times, Siyaram Baba resides at Bhatyan Ashram along the banks of the Narmada River and is famous for his legendary tales, including a decade spent standing on one leg in penance. Even at 109, he’s reportedly able to read the Ramayana without glasses and continues to live independently. Devotees flock to seek his blessings, despite his penchant for speaking very little.
