Danger Alert! Fridge Hygiene Linked To Rise In UTI Cases

New research shows shocking rates in the incidences of UTIs and other emerging factors that could be the cause are right in your refrigerator.

Recent research indicates that negligence in handling and storage of foods especially those kept in refrigerators might have a big role to play in this increase.

What Are UTIs?

A UTI, short for Urinary Tract Infection, refers to a condition whereby a part of the urinary system which includes the kidneys, the bladder, and the urethra becomes infected.

In most cases, it is usually a result of bacterial infections and the signs include painful urination, just to name a few.

Poor practices in handling food, especially when refrigeration is not properly done, lead to bacterial growth.

Statistics show that refrigerators at an optimal temperature of 37°F (3°C) that are not well preserved contribute to the growth of bad bacteria.

 Food Safety and Hygiene

Some of the problems that are likely to be faced include cross-contamination. For instance, raw meats that are not stored separately do spread bacteria, viruses, and other parasitic substances to other foods and other surfaces.

Also, factors such as spilling of foods and using unclean utensils were found to spread bacteria.

UTIs should not be taken lightly because they compromise one’s ability to go on with tedious tasks as they may be in severe pain or constantly running to the Restroom.

This will have a great impact on the quality of life of the affected people, leading them to spend more money.

To prevent this, you need to ensure that you clean your refrigerator, ensure the refrigerator is at the right temperature, and use different plates for raw foods and cooked foods.

Also, drink a lot of water and or other liquids to wash out bacteria on or around the urinary system as well as maintain proper hygiene.
